Hurricane Earl and its effects on Atlantic City casinos

New Jersey is preparing to face Hurricane Earl. The storm path has been laid out by meteorologists and the news is not good for New Jersey and the Atlantic City casino gambling industry. If the most popular path is followed, storms are expected to hit New Jersey by Thursday night or Friday morning. Usually it is Florida and the Gulf Coast that has to worry about the worst damage from hurricanes that brew in the Atlantic. Earl, however, is taking a path that could bring storms all the way up the East Coast from North Carolina north.

“This is just not the type of news that casinos in Atlantic City were hoping for,” said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz”. Another bad news for the local gambling industry, after earlier this summer the tough competition from Pennsylvania casinos and also from other North-eastern states hit home casinos in Atlantic City. The two greatest killer hurricanes to ever strike New Jersey were in 1806 and 1944.
