But now that casino gambling has been expanded in the state hundreds of those have been seized in Miami as to protect gambling interests. Casinos have become more prevalent in South Florida since lawmakers changed the gambling laws this year. Legislators reached an agreement with the Seminole Indians to allow blackjack at five of their seven casinos.

The advancement of casinos in South Florida has made law enforcement more aware of the illegal activity that has been taking place for several years in Miami. The gambling industry in Florida has become one of the top in the nation over the past couple of years, and lawmakers are even considering full blown Vegas-style casino gambling in the future.

Mid-terms election and gambling

As last year Illinois lawmakers passed a law that allowed video gambling in the state, any town was able to opt out of the law by banning video gambling. But now lawmakers will likely discuss gambling expansion on a much bigger scale in the coming months. Mid-term elections take place next week around the US, and the turnover could lead to many current lawmakers losing their positions in their state.

In lame-duck session usually many laws are passed by outgoing members of state legislature’s. In Illinois, this could mean full-scale casino gambling in Chicago and other cities: there are different proposals that are being examined and race tracks would also receive the right to operate casinos. Whether or not the state legislators moves forward in the coming weeks will have much to do with the outcome of the elections: if a large majority of the current lawmakers lose their seats, they would be more likely to vote in favor of the gambling expansion with the understanding that they will not have to deal with the consequences of their votes.

Harrah's try to move on a new Philadelphia casino project

Harrah’s Entertainment keeps on spreading its wings on the US casino gaming industry. The company just did a move that would signal more expansion: it has been named as a new partner in the stalled Foxwoods Casino project in Philadelphia. As Harrah’s already owns and operates Chester casino which is just fifteen miles away from the Foxwoods site, it would be allowed under Pennsylvania law to own only 33 percent of the project in Philadelphia.

The project was first licensed in 2006, one of two available for the city of Philadelphia. The other license went to SugarHouse Casino, which opened last month. The local investors that are trying to reignite the Foxwoods project are facing the possibility that they could be stripped of their gaming license because Pennsylvania gaming authorities have threatened to revoke the project’s casino license and are expected to take up the matter at a public hearing today. The more likely scenario is that the decision will be put off until a hearing can be held to discuss the new addition of Harrah’s.

Recently Canadian provinces have been dealing with the online gambling issue. US Gaming revenue: $80.5 billion in 2009

Consulting firm Richard K. Miller and Associates (RKMA) released a new report revealing that gross gaming revenue in the U.S. totaled $80.5 billion in 2009. The study “Casinos, Gaming, and Wagering 2010” provided in-depth analysis regarding the amount of money retained by casinos, racetracks, lotteries, and other gaming hosts.

According to the results emerged from it, approximately 70% of U.S. adults placed a wager of some type in 2009, wagering approximately $900 billion on any form of legal betting like poker, casinos, racetracks and lottery games, non including the estimated $100 to $300 billion wagered annually in the U.S. on sporting events. Of the $80.5 billion in revenue, casinos earned a total of $57.5 billion while lotteries generated $17.9 billion and poker $1.1 billion. The “Casinos, Gaming & Wagering” report has been published since 1997 and is considered to be the most comprehensive reference for current gaming and wagering statistics and historical data available from any source.

As all the efforts made over the past couple of years to revive the struggling Atlantic City casino industry, the local casino owners decided to pool $30 million of their money trying to turn around business. The hope is that by working together, they can bring gamblers back to Atlantic City. “The past few years have been rough on all eleven of the casinos in Atlantic City” Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz claimed. “Although they are all competitors, these casino owners also understand what is at stake if business continues on its current path. They had to do something to combat neighboring states, and the Alliance was a wise decision”.

Recently Pennsylvania lawmakers legalized table games causing a spike in revenue at casinos in the state. So Pennsylvania became the biggest threat to the AC casino industry. But also New York, Maryland, and Delaware have also taken customers from AC in recent years. Anyway the alliance of tycoon in gaming industry is nothing new. Ivey enraged with Wynn Las Vegas: "I'll Never Play Here Again!"

Poker legend Phil Ivey has been caught having a major tantrum while playing craps at the Las Vegas Wynn. Phil Ivey reportedly got into a heated argument with two floor supervisors over a craps ruling he did not accept and then threatened never to return back to the top gambling destination.

Ivey had been playing craps while an employee made a mistake which Ivey thought was incorrect. As the ruling of floor supervisors was against him, he flung abuse at the casino employees closing with the phrase: “I’ll never play here again! If you see me playing dice here again I’ll suck your d*ck!” then pointing at another supervisor he shouted again “Yours too”. As there were several witnesses on the scene it appears the story is accurate. Phil is an avid casino player and he will probably won’t return to the Wynn, at least unless they won’t offer official apologies.

Maryland Casino helps national education system

After years of patient waiting for the opportunity to stay in their own state when they want to place bets in a casino, last month (on September 27th) Maryland gamblers finally received that wish when the Hollywood Casino Perryville opened. The crowd rushed into the gambling facility helped the casino exceed expectations in revenue: over $2 million in the first four days. That’s really good news for lawmakers.

Hollywood Casino has 1,500 slot machines, whose average daily win is $346 each, much more than the projected $210 per day. The money gained the first few days of the casino’s existence will be devolved for the Maryland education system. Over $1 million is going to be pumped in it, while Penn National – the gaming company that operates the casino – will receive only $685,000. Maryland is one of several Northeastern states that have expanded gambling recently. A good news for these states which turned out to be miserable news for New Jersey, the state that once held a monopoly on casino gambling in the Northeast.
